Placentation is the arrangement of the ovules on the placenta inside the ovary. In marginal placentation the placenta forms a ridge along the ventral suture, as in the pea; in axile placentation the placenta is axial with the ovules attached to it in a multi-chambered ovary, as in the tomato. Parietal, free central and basal placentation are further types.
