In ultrafiltration, blood in the glomerulus is filtered under pressure into the Bowman's capsule, and everything except blood cells and large proteins passes through. In selective reabsorption, the useful substances — glucose, most of the water, amino acids and some salts — are taken back into the blood from the tubule. In tubular secretion, extra wastes and excess ions are passed from the blood into the tubule.
