What is genetically engineered insulin, and why was it needed?
Biotechnology and its Applications
Original Khojo Papers practice question — not from a past board paper.
Bt cotton carries a cry gene taken from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis. The gene makes an inactive protoxin crystal; when an insect eats the plant, the alkaline gut converts the protoxin into an active toxin that punctures the gut cells and kills the insect. The toxin is inactive in the plant itself and in the acidic human stomach.
No citable source has been recorded for this record. Treat it as practice material, not as fact.
Different cry genes are effective against different groups of insects.
